All About The iPhone 6s
Apple releases a numbered iPhone and an “s” model on alternating years. Of course, September 2015 saw the release of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Most iPhone s models come with incremental upgrades without changing the formula too much. The 6s and 6s Plus, however, introduces some noticeable and, thus far, pleasing changes to the iPhone. In fact, the technology inside these devices is better than ever.
Hardware and Software
Unsurprisingly, the 6s resembles its predecessor in every way. It sports a 4.7-inch display powered by an Apple A9 system-on-chip, and a 1,715 mAh battery. Internal storage options include 16GB, 64GB, and a whopping 128GB of memory. For the new 6s, iOS 9 has replaced iOS 8 as the latest operating system. Apple Pay and Touch ID come standard with this device.
A handful of major changes have been introduced here, though. 2GB of RAM now come standard with the iPhone 6s, providing better multitasking performance. Also, an improved 12MP iSight camera has been added to the rear for even better images and video. 4K video and Slo-Mo Capture are available. A 5MP front-facing shooter is available for selfies and video chatting.
According to teardowns, Apple encased the device’s internal technology with a protective gasket. This isn’t advertised as a feature, but the device is waterproof to some degree. Perhaps the most important addition to the device is 3D Touch. In simple terms, the screen can register pressure differences in touches and taps for added functionality.
Opting for the iPhone 6s Plus yields a 5.5-inch screen, a bigger battery, and optical image stabilization for the camera.
Is Upgrading A Smart Idea?
It could be argued that Apple made bigger improvements to the s model this year compared to previous years. The technology in the device, and its larger model, makes a noticeable difference. For instance, more RAM provides better overall performance, and a protective gasket, as well as stronger aluminum, make the device more durable. Lastly, a better camera and the introduction of 3D Touch, certainly sweeten the deal.
